New Pilot Mentoring Program to Support Cancer Nurses Exploring Research
This pilot program offers a unique blend of self-directed learning and supportive mentorship, with participants provided access to the VCCC Alliance Essential Research Skills for Clinical Nurses course, delivered by the University of Melbourne. Through your participation, you'll learn the foundations of clinical research— including study design, data collection, and turning an idea into a research project—in a practical, flexible format for busy clinicians.
“This program is about helping nurses connect, learn, and grow,” says Dr Elizabeth Moore, Chair of the CNSA Research Standing Committee. “We know many early career nurses are interested in research but aren’t sure where to begin. This program offers a chance to build skills and confidence, while being part of a supportive network of peers and experienced mentors.”
Throughout the program, participants will be guided by mentors and invited to engage in peer discussions and reflective learning. The pilot is designed not only to build foundational research capability, but also to create momentum toward future opportunities—such as submitting abstracts to CNSA Congress or applying for CNSA Research Grants.
Associate Professor Gemma McErlean, CNSA Director of Research, reinforces the key concept: “This initiative is a fantastic way to nurture early interest in research and encourage nurses to take that first step. Supporting early career researchers through programs like this helps strengthen the future of cancer nursing and ensures our workforce continues to innovate and lead.”
The CNSA Research Pathway Mentoring Program is exclusively available to CNSA Members. Applications for the pilot are now open, click here to find out more.
