Survivorship
Cancer survivorship provides a focus on the health and wellbeing of a person living with and beyond cancer, with the ultimate aim being to improve survival, physical symptom management, psychosocial effects, and quality of life of cancer survivors.
Cancer Nurses can play an important role in identifying and managing issues and unmet needs experienced by cancer survivors and linking them with supportive resources and services. CNSA has collated resources and information relevant to nurses interested in implementing cancer survivorship and nurse-led models of care.
Cancer Nurses Role in Survivorship
The Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) Survivorship Group, led by COSA Survivorship Fellow and CNSA Vice President Prof Gemma McErlean, has recently published work on identifying the capabilities of cancer nurses to deliver quality cancer survivorship care in Australia, aiming to improve the quality of cancer care.
Following this research, CNSA and COSA united to develop a position statement on The Contribution of Nurses to Cancer Survivorship Care in Australia that outlines 40 recommendations across service delivery, research, education and policy, with a strong focus on enabling nurses to work to their full scope of practice in survivorship care.
