Medical Oncologist
Dr Malinda Itchins (BMedSci; MBBS(Hons); FRACP; PhD), is a Thoracic Medical Oncologist at Royal North Shore Hospital and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse. She is a Board Director with the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA), and Lung Cancer Chair on COSA Council. She is Co-Chair of the Thoracic Oncology of Group of Australasia (TOGA) Scientific Committee Advanced NSCLC Group. Malinda represents Medical Oncology on the National Lung Cancer Screening Program Government Advisory Board. She is passionate about precision medicine and equitable access to care including novel therapeutics for people affected by lung cancer.Radiation Oncologist
Dr Weerasinghe is a Radiation Oncology Fellow at Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre. She completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2015 and subsequently undertook her radiation oncology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, she obtained fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in 2023. She completed a dedicated Thoracic Fellowship at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead and presented at the 2023 Thoracic Oncology Symposium. Chamitha is currently completing a PhD researching radiation resistance to stereotactic body radiation therapy with the University of Sydney.Clinical Lung Cancer Nurse Representative / Lung Cancer Nurse Consultant
Helen Westman is the Lung Cancer Nurse Consultant at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. She has 20 years of cancer nursing experience and has been a specialist lung cancer nurse since 2017.
Helen coordinates the care of patients with a suspected thoracic malignancy, working closely with the respiratory team to facilitate rapid diagnosis, and supporting patients undergoing surgery or receiving treatment via medical and radiation oncology.
Helen is committed to patient education and ensuring patients have access to appropriate and relevant resources, acknowledging that information empowers patients to make informed decisions about their care. She also advocates for and supports nurse education and has developed nationally available resources on both lung cancer and immunotherapy. Helen is a member of several nursing oncology groups, and she holds a Master of Cancer Nursing, a Master of Public Health and is currently studying to become a Nurse Practitioner.
