Exercise is widely recognised as an important component of cancer care, supporting treatment tolerance, physical function, and quality of life. While many
cancer nurses understand its benefits, uncertainty can arise when patients ask practical questions such as “Is it safe for me to exercise?”, “What should I avoid?”, or
“Can I still exercise with metastatic disease?”

In this webinar, Dale Ischia, Accredited Exercise Physiologist and founder of Moving Beyond Cancer, joins an experienced breast cancer nurse for a practical, conversational discussion about exercise in cancer care. Using a discussion format, the nurse will pose real-world questions that arise in clinical practice, including some of the more challenging or less commonly discussed scenarios. Dale will respond with evidence-based insights and practical guidance drawn from over 30 years of clinical experience working with people living with and beyond cancer.

The session will explore the importance of exercise across the cancer continuum, key safety considerations, particularly for people living with metastatic cancer, and when referral to an Accredited Exercise Physiologist may be appropriate.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the role and benefits of exercise in cancer care, including its impact on treatment tolerance, physical function, and quality of life. Identify key safety considerations when discussing exercise with people living with cancer, including those with metastatic disease.
  • Respond to common patient questions about exerciseusing practical, evidence-based guidance. Recognise situations where referral to an Accredited Exercise Physiologist or exercise oncology service may be appropriate.
  • Increase confidence in initiating conversations about exercise with patients across different stages of the cancer experience.
