Referrals Open: NSW Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) Multidisciplinary Team Pilot

NSW cancer nurses are encouraged to support the new Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Clinical Service Pilot, launching in July 2025.

Led by the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI), this statewide initiative has been developed by the GTD Working Group, a subgroup of the ACI Gynaecological Oncology Network. The pilot aims to improve care for patients with GTD by providing centralised access to MDT expertise—while continuing to support patient care through their local specialist teams.

Hosted by Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, the pilot MDT service brings together leading experts across disciplines to ensure patients receive timely, coordinated and evidence-based care, regardless of where they live. The service will support:

  • Consistent diagnosis and management
  • Improved patient outcomes
  • Reduced clinical variation across the state
How Nurses Can Support

Nurses working with patients diagnosed with GTD are encouraged to refer patients to the COBLH MDT service for:

  • Monitoring
  • Consultation
  • Care planning

Patients will continue to receive much of their care through their existing treatment teams, while benefiting from the oversight and expertise of the MDT.

This pilot is an opportunity to enhance coordination of care for rare and complex gynaecological cancers, and your referrals are key to its success.
