Nursing Workforce in Australia: 2025

This snapshot provides an overview of Australia’s cancer nursing workforce using the latest National Health Workforce Dataset.

It brings together key data on the size, growth, demographics and geographic distribution of the cancer nursing workforce, alongside a closer look at the cancer nurse practitioner workforce. In 2025, 8,828 employed nurses reported working in cancer care, representing 2.1% of Australia’s national nursing workforce and a 6.7% increase from 2024.

Following CNSA’s advocacy to have cancer care included as a nominated job area in AHPRA registration, we now have five full years of data to help track changes in the profession and strengthen our understanding of Australia’s cancer nursing workforce.
