Attending the CNSA Annual Congress is an important professional development opportunity for cancer nurses at all career stages. We recognise that many members are required to submit a formal request to access leave or professional development support to attend.

What this letter is for
This letter is designed to help you clearly and professionally explain:
- Why attending the CNSA Annual Congress is relevant to your role
- How the program supports safe, contemporary cancer nursing practice
- The value of attendance for patients, services, and the wider workforce
- How participation contributes to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The language is intentionally balanced, evidence-informed, and appropriate for use in public, private, and non-government health services.
How to use the template

- Download the Word document: The template is fully editable and can be saved to your device.
- Complete your details: Add your name, role, unit, and organisation at the top of the document
- Personalise where appropriate: You may wish to adjust wording to better reflect your role or service; highlight specific Congress themes relevant to your practice or remove sections that are not required
- Include the optional executive section if needed: Some organisations require a stronger service-level justification. An optional executive-focused section is included and can be retained or deleted depending on your local requirements.
- Attach the letter to your leave or PD request: Submit the completed letter alongside your organisation’s standard leave or professional development approval process.
CPD and professional standards
The CNSA Annual Congress supports ongoing professional learning in line with the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. Attendance contributes to CPD requirements through engagement in education, reflection on practice, and application of learning in the workplace.
The template includes a dedicated CPD paragraph that you may retain or adapt to align with your organisation’s professional development framework.
