Have you applied for a CNSA Research Grant yet?

Applications are open now, and we encourage all eligible members to consider applying — whether you’re looking to explore a novel idea, develop new models of care, or test an intervention that could be scaled nationally. This year, we have a combined $60,000 funding available for CNSA members to undertake research that advances cancer nursing practice and improves outcomes for people affected by cancer.

In an exciting new addition to the $30,000 in national research grants available for 2025, CNSA has partnered with the Hunter Breast Education Group (HBEG) and funding partner PKF Sydney and Newcastle to offer an additional $30,000 grant exclusively for CNSA members actively involved in any aspect of breast cancer care who are working in the Hunter and New England Local Health District. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering innovation, supporting local research, and empowering cancer nurses to lead evidence-based change.

Over the years, CNSA’s Research Grants have supported an impressive range of nurse-led initiatives that have delivered real impact for patients, families, and the profession. Past recipients have explored diverse and practice-changing topics, including:

  • Nurse-led same-day discharge following laparoscopic surgery in gynaecological oncologyBronwyn Jennings

  • Inflammation and symptoms in people receiving immunotherapy treatment for advanced cancerHelen Anderson

  • Optimising symptom management in patients receiving bone marrow transplantationRachel Edwards

  • Medic Alerts to provide accessible treatment summaries for Allogeneic HSCT patients: A pilot study to inform a future RCTNicole Loft

  • Development of embedded mental health education for early career cancer nursesAndrew Dimech

  • Nurse-led and GP-supported symptom management program for breast cancer survivors: Co-design and preliminary assessment (Funded through the BPCAQ Grant)Benjamin Tan

These projects demonstrate the breadth and depth of innovation that CNSA members bring to the profession — from improving discharge processes and symptom management, to integrating mental health education and enhancing survivorship care.

Applications are open now, and we encourage all eligible members to consider applying — whether you’re looking to explore a novel idea, develop new models of care, or test an intervention that could be scaled nationally.
