Cancer Nurses Society Australia (CNSA) in partnership with Tasmanian Health Service (THS) bring you 'Survivorship in Practice: The Role of Cancer Nurses'. Gain essential knowledge and insights to support patients during and beyond cancer treatment, designed for real-world nursing practice.
The session will include a consumer perspective, offering valuable insights into lived experience after cancer treatment. Attendees will then gain an overview of the Northern Cancer Service Survivorship Care Program, including care for individuals with treatable and non-curable cancer, national data and definitions, patient outcomes, and the importance of sustainable, collaborative models of care.
Key clinical topics will be explored throughout the session, including evidence-based approaches to managing fear of cancer recurrence or progression, with a focus on screening, assessment, referral pathways, and emerging training opportunities.
The session will also include practical strategies, such as the role of exercise in cancer care, as well as managing common survivorship concerns such as memory, concentration, and sleep.
The program will conclude with a forward-looking session on the role of cancer nurses in survivorship care, highlighting career progression opportunities, nurse-led models of care, research, and key position statements shaping the future of practice.
Overall, the event will rovide practical knowledge, evidence-based insights, and real-world strategies to support cancer nurses in delivering high-quality, person-centred care across the survivorship continuum.

Freya Williams is an experienced oncology nurse currently working as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in Cancer Survivorship Care and Clinical Nurse Educator in Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation within Hospitals North, Tasmania Health. She holds a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice and has a strong professional interest in vascular access, infusion therapy, education, and improving patient outcomes across the cancer continuum.
Freya is passionate about advancing evidence-based vascular access practice, supporting workforce capability, and improving patient experiences through education, clinical leadership, and quality improvement initiatives. Her interests include difficult intravenous access, vessel health and preservation, and promoting safe and effective infusion therapy practices within oncology care. Freya is a valued member of the CNSA VAD&IT SPN.

Occupational Therapist, Launceston General Hospital and senior lecturer, Health Science, UTAS
Helen Titmuss is an Occupational Therapist and Lecturer, with a Master’s Degree in Neurological Rehabilitation. Helen works at Launceston General Hospital, supporting neurological clinical care, student placements and staff education. Helen is also a Lecturer with the new Masters of Occupational Therapy post-graduate entry-level course, teaching a new generation of Tasmanian OTs. Helen has had a strong interest in cancer rehabilitation for many years, and successfully secured and delivered a grant in 2019 to increase knowledge and capacity across THS in this vital area of care.

Medical Oncology Nurse Practitioner, CNSA Director, Bendigo Health Cancer Centre
Justin Hargreaves (BN, PGDipN(Can&Pall), MAdvNursPrac(NPRAC) is a Nurse Practitioner at Bendigo Cancer Centre, Bendigo Health, Victoria, and previous Chair of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) Cancer Nurse Practitioner Specialist Practice Network.
He completed his Master of Advanced Nursing Practice at the University of Melbourne in 2010 and was endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner in 2011. He works full-time at Bendigo Health Cancer Centre, where his clinical focus includes patient assessment, management of chemotherapy and immunotherapy-related toxicities, breast cancer survivorship, oral anticancer therapies, and supportive care.
In June 2025, Justin joined the CNSA Board as a Director and looks forward to contributing at a broader strategic level to support professional leadership, influence the future of cancer nursing, and advance innovation in cancer care across Australia.

Exercise Physiologist, Body Connect and Cancer Council Tasmania
Dr Katie-Jane Brickwood is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Director of Body Connect Exercise Physiology, with a strong focus on supporting people living with and beyond cancer. She holds a PhD in clinical exercise physiology and brings extensive experience translating research into practical, person-centred care.
Katie-Jane is passionate about the role of exercise in cancer treatment and recovery, with particular interest in building strength, improving bone density, managing treatment-related side effects, and enhancing quality of life. She works closely within multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated care tailored to each individual.
Through her clinical work, education, and advocacy, Katie-Jane is committed to improving access to evidence-based exercise services in oncology and empowering both patients and health professionals to confidently incorporate movement into cancer care.

Lili is a Cancer Survivorship Care Clinical Nurse Consultant at the Northern Cancer Service in Tasmania, bringing 10 years of experience across oncology and haematology to the team. Lili has a strong focus on the patient's lived experience and managing the ongoing effects of cancer and its treatment. She is committed to supporting multi-dimensional patient care of individuals through the entire trajectory of treatment and recovery. Lili is a member of the newly established CNSA Survivorship CoP and is a dedicated advocate for regional survivorship care pathways.

A/Prof Ben Smith is a Cancer Institute NSW Career Development Fellow and Senior Implementation Scientist, at the Daffodil Centre, Cancer Council NSW and University of Sydney. Ben has 15+ years of research experience focused on ensuring equitable access to high quality evidence-based cancer care for all people living with cancer. He is leading the development and implementation of a step-by-step plan (i.e., clinical pathway) for health professionals to identify and provide tailored support to people experiencing fear of cancer recurrence.
