Drawing on decades of experience across paediatric, adolescent and young adult, adult oncology, bone marrow transplant and palliative care settings, Anita will share insights into introducing advance care planning early and helping clinicians build confidence in conversations about end-of-life choices. Suzanne will bring a cultural care perspective, informed by her work in cancer nurse education and research into end-of-life care for Muslim patients, exploring how nurses can build meaningful, compassionate relationships in the context of life-limiting illness.

Anita has spent 30 years working in paediatric oncology, bone marrow transplant and adult oncology departments and more recently, palliative care in England and Australia in tertiary and regional hospitals and in the public and private sectors. Having worked with Adolescents and Young Adults with all kinds of cancer as well as adults with Brain cancer for over 10 years, Anita is passionate about introducing advanced care planning and choices for care discussions as early as possible with patients and families as well as encouraging all clinician to get comfortable with challenging conversations around End of Life choices.

Suzanne Bishaw is currently a teaching academic in the School of Nursing at Curtin University in Perth. Suzanne has 25 years of experience in cancer nursing as a registered nurse, nurse manager and nurse educator. She has worked predominately in Australia, [Northern Territory & Queensland], United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Whilst in the UAE Suzanne was a founding member of the Emirates Oncology Nursing Society.
Suzanne has spent the last 15 years in cancer nurse education and is interested in cultural care especially at end of life. Her research has explored the experiences of expatriate nurses in the UAE providing end of life care to Muslim patients. Her studies explore what are the interactions that nurses providing care in the context of a life-limiting illness must happen to create a transpersonal caring relationship. Suzanne is a member of the CNSA Education Standing Committee, Chair of the International Conference Cancer Nursing (ICCN) Management Committee, Board Member of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC).
