New publication reinforces the role of nurses in cancer survivorship care

CNSA is pleased to share the publication of the joint CNSA–COSA Position Statement, The Contribution of Nurses to Cancer Survivorship Care in Australia, in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology.

The publication reinforces the critical role nurses play in delivering high-quality, person-centred survivorship care across the cancer continuum.

As more people live with and beyond cancer, survivorship care must be embedded as a core part of cancer care. Nurses are central to this work, providing education, coordination, symptom management, advocacy and ongoing support for people affected by cancer.

The CNSA–COSA Position Statement outlines 40 recommendations across service delivery, research, education and policy. Together, these recommendations provide a clear framework for recognising, supporting and strengthening the contribution of nurses to survivorship care in Australia.

The published paper also describes the development, consultation and endorsement process behind the Position Statement, reflecting strong collaboration across nursing, oncology and the broader cancer sector.

CNSA will continue to work with members, partners and stakeholders to support implementation of the Position Statement and advocate for models of care that enable nurses to work to their full scope in survivorship care.
