Creating new networks: first Melanoma CoP meeting a success

We’re excited to share the success of our first-ever collaborative Community of Practice (CoP) for melanoma nurses, held in partnership with Melanoma Patients Australia and Melanoma Institute Australia.

This important initiative brought together 27 nurses from across Australia, with a strong balance of both metropolitan and regional representation, to establish a national network for sharing experiences, reducing professional isolation, and strengthening melanoma nursing practice.

The meeting featured a standout presentation from Emma Zurawel, Melanoma Support Nurse with Melanoma Patients Australia, who outlined the suite of supportive care services available to patients and nurses—ranging from telehealth nursing, peer support, and nurse-led navigation, to targeted emotional and psychosocial support using tools like the distress thermometer.

Key topics discussed included:

  • Identifying educational gaps, with strong interest in areas such as immunotherapy, follow-up care, and survivorship.

  • The role of nurse-led support in helping patients navigate diagnosis, recurrence, and treatment phases.

  • Support groups and resources available through Melanoma Patients Australia

This meeting marked the beginning of an exciting new community focused on strengthening melanoma care through knowledge-sharing, connection, and collaboration.

We welcome the opportunity to partner with other organisations to deliver specific Communities of Practice. Find out more here.
