Dr Kit Huckvale - Keeping Care Patient-Centred in an AI World
Dr Kit Huckvale Square.png

Dr Kit Huckvale will explore how Artificial Intelligence is already changing the way patients engage with cancer care, often before they ever reach a clinician. He will highlight how patients are using AI to interpret symptoms, make decisions, and navigate services, and what this means for nurses when those decisions are invisible, sometimes misinformed, and not always aligned with real-world care pathways.

Importantly, this won’t be a passive discussion about technology. Kit will centre the role of nursing leadership, challenging attendees to step forward in three critical areas: shaping how AI is implemented in practice, influencing the data and problems that AI is built around, and leading the ethical and patient-centred conversations that must underpin its use.

Delegates will leave with practical questions, frameworks, and a clearer sense of their role in ensuring AI is not something that happens to healthcare, but something they actively shape.

Dr Carla Thamm - Australian Cancer Nursing Capability Framework: Shaping the Future Workforce
Dr Carla Thamm Square.png

Dr Carla Thamm has been the project lead on the newly redeveloped Australian Cancer Nursing Capability Framework, a pivotal step in shaping the future of the cancer nursing workforce. This session will introduce the Framework and explore its role in supporting safe, consistent, and high-quality cancer care.

Built to define and strengthen cancer nursing practice, the Framework outlines capability across three levels: essential, specialised, and advanced. It is designed by cancer nurses for cancer nurses, offering nurses support at every stage of their career, providing a shared language for capability, strengthening professional identity, and supporting greater consistency across the workforce.

Attendees will be encouraged to consider how the Framework can be applied within their own practice and settings, and how it can support career development, workforce planning, and service design over time.
