CNSA 2027 Congress: Start planning your abstract

Congress is where cancer nurses learn from each other. The sessions people talk about long after they leave are often the simplest: a nurse explaining what they tried, what happened, and what others could take back to their own workplace. Your abstract could be that session for someone else.

The call for abstracts opens next month, which makes now the perfect time to start thinking about what you could bring to this year’s theme: People. Practice. Progress. Policy.

Every cancer nurse has something worth sharing. Maybe it’s the change your team made that meant patients waited less, or the education session that finally made a new treatment click for your colleagues. Maybe it’s a small idea that worked so well you can’t imagine going back. That’s the work we want to hear about.

You don’t need a large research study to earn a place on the program. Quality improvement projects, practice changes, new models of care, education initiatives and early findings all belong here. If you’ve never presented before, this is a great year to start.

A little thinking now makes all the difference when submissions open. Ask yourself what you’ve done that other nurses would want to know about, and what changed because of it. Start gathering the outcomes, feedback or data that tell that story, talk with your team about who will be involved, and check whether you need any approvals to share the work. If it’s your first abstract, ask a colleague you trust to be your sounding board.

We can't wait to hear your ideas!

Travel Grants - making Congress possible for every member

Whether you’re submitting an abstract or simply want to be in the room, a CNSA travel grant can help cover the cost of getting to Canberra.

It’s easy to talk yourself out of applying: to assume you won’t be eligible, that someone else needs it more, or that your application won’t stand out. If cost is what stands between you and Congress, this is exactly what the grants are for. This year, we want to see as many members apply as possible.

Applications open early next year, so keep an eye out and give it a go!
