Celebrating Our Outgoing Directors and Chairs

As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future, we take this moment to express our sincere gratitude to several individuals whose terms in leadership roles with CNSA have recently come to a close. Their contributions have helped shape the organisation and strengthen cancer nursing across Australia.

At the CNSA Annual General Meeting on Saturday 21 June, we officially farewelled the following members of our Board of Directors:

Diane Davey – Elected Director

Over more than four years, Diane brought her expertise, energy and insight to the communications, congress, and advocacy portfolios. She played a key role in amplifying the voice of cancer nurses and positioning CNSA as a thought leader in cancer nursing. Her strategic thinking and commitment to impact will leave a lasting legacy.

Tracy Pearce – Appointed Director

Tracy led a comprehensive review of CNSA’s governance structure, helping lay the foundations for a stronger, more sustainable organisation. Her leadership was pivotal in clarifying roles, refreshing key documents, and supporting the transition to a more contemporary governance model.

Margie Hjorth – Casual Vacancy

Margie’s contribution, though shorter in tenure, was no less significant. Her passion for connection, leadership and education shone through in every interaction. She brought warmth and clarity to complex discussions, always keeping the experience of members front and centre.

We also extend our appreciation to our outgoing Committee Chairs, each of whom has led with determination, energy and dedication:

Carla Thamm – Chair, Education Standing Committee

Carla served six years on the committee, including three as Chair. Her leadership has been instrumental in the redevelopment of the Australian Cancer Nursing Framework, a key project she will continue to lead in her professional capacity in advancing professional development and defining capabilities across the cancer nursing workforce.

Justin Hargreaves – Chair, Cancer Nurse Practitioners Specialist Practice Network

Over five years, Justin led the development of a mentoring program for Nurse Practitioner candidates, delivered practical workshops, and was a strong voice in advocacy for nurse practitioners working to their full scope. His vision and mentorship have made a tangible difference to the NP community.

Robyn McIntyre – Co-Chair, VIC/TAS State Group Committee

Stepping into the Chair role in her final 12 months of a six-year term, Robyn provided crucial leadership and continuity. She guided the committee through a successful year of education delivery and member engagement across both states, ensuring our regional voice remained strong.

Christine Henneker – Chair, WA State Group Committee

Christine—synonymous with CNSA WA—has been a driving force for professional development, collaboration, and connection in the west. Her advocacy, compassion, and steadfast commitment have inspired countless cancer nurses and made WA events a highlight on the calendar.

To Diane, Margie, Tracy, Carla, Justin, Robyn and Christine: thank you. Your time, leadership and care have helped strengthen CNSA and uplift cancer nurses across the country. Your legacy will continue to shape our work for years to come.

Volunteering with CNSA is not only a way to give back to the profession but also an opportunity to grow personally and professionally. Whether contributing to national strategy or supporting local events, our volunteers help shape the future of cancer nursing in Australia. It’s a chance to build leadership skills, connect with passionate peers, and make a tangible impact on patient care. Nominations to join our Standing, State Group and Specialist Practice Network committees level will be opening soon—we encourage all members to consider getting involved. Your voice matters, and your contribution can make a difference.
