Celebrating International Nurses Day 2025

International Nurses Day is a time to honour, celebrate and reflect on the extraordinary contribution nurses make every day across our health system and communities. At CNSA, we proudly acknowledge the dedication, compassion and skill that cancer nurses bring to their roles—supporting patients and families through some of the most complex and emotionally challenging moments of their lives. This year’s global theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future.”, reinforces the vital role nurses play in shaping strong, sustainable healthcare systems and driving better outcomes—not only for patients, but for our communities and economies. As we face growing challenges across the cancer care landscape, recognising and investing in nurses is more important than ever.

To mark this special day, we encourage our members to join a VCCC Alliance Monday Lunch Live webinar on Monday 12 May from 1.00pm–2.00pm (AEST). Titled “Our Nurses. Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies”, this session will highlight how nurses—particularly advanced practice nurses—drive better patient care, reduce healthcare costs, and play a critical role in global health and economic prosperity.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Mei Krishnasamy (Chair), Professor of Nursing, University of Melbourne and VCCC Alliance

  • Jac Mathieson, Director, Safe Staffing Healthy Workplace Unit, Health New Zealand

  • Professor Kate White, Professor of Cancer Nursing, University of Sydney
