CANDIDATE: Linda McGinn

CNSA Board of Director Elections 2026

Candidate Statement

I am a senior oncology nurse leader with extensive experience in governance, workforce development and system wide cancer care improvement.

I bring more than fifteen years of experience in oncology nursing and health service transformation, with senior leadership roles spanning clinical care, workforce strategy, digital health implementation and quality governance. This experience has largely been within the private cancer care setting. I currently work in a global role at Icon Group as the Group Manager: Development and Implementation in Nursing. In this role I contribute to organisation wide strategy and governance through senior leadership forums. Translating our strategy into sustainable models of care that strengthen clinical quality, workforce capability and patient outcomes.

My leadership experience is grounded in strong governance and risk awareness. I have held responsibility for clinical governance standards, policy development, mandatory reporting and quality improvement frameworks, ensuring services meet regulatory, accreditation and safety requirements. This experience provides a solid foundation to actively contribute to board discussions relating to clinical risk, assurance and performance oversight.

I have extensive management and systems experience across complex, multi-site environments. I have designed and led workforce planning, recruitment and retention strategies, developed career pathway frameworks, and overseen large scale education and capability uplift programs. These initiatives have delivered improved retention, workforce sustainability and consistency of practice across services. I bring a practical understanding of how strategic decisions translate into frontline impact for nurses and patients.

A key strength I offer is digital, data and systems knowledge. I have led and supported the implementation of workflow automation and electronic prescribing systems within oncology services. I am experienced in using data to inform service redesign, quality improvement and workforce planning, and I am confident contributing to board level conversations about digital enablement, information governance and future ready cancer nursing services.

I am an experienced collaborator and influencer, regularly working with executive leaders, clinicians, patients and external partners. I am known for clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to progress complex initiatives while maintaining focus on patient centred care and nursing excellence. My leadership style aligns strongly with the CNSA values, combining evidence-based decision making, inclusivity and a commitment to developing current and future nursing leaders.

Collectively, these skills position me well to contribute meaningfully to the governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia.

Brief overview of current and/or previous contribution towards the CNSA and/or cancer control:

My professional career has been dedicated to improving cancer care delivery and strengthening the oncology nursing workforce across Australia. As a senior oncology nurse leader, I have contributed to cancer control through service development, workforce capability building, patient centred care models and the translation of best practice into routine clinical care.

I have led and supported initiatives across the cancer care continuum, including radiation oncology, medical oncology, inpatient services and survivorship. Notably, I served as nursing clinical lead for the development and national implementation of an award-winning cancer survivorship program, improving post treatment support and care coordination for private patients. I have also been involved in establishing multidisciplinary cancer services and refining referral and care pathways to enhance access, quality and continuity of care.

My engagement with the oncology nursing community includes presenting at national Cancer Nurses Society of Australia congresses, contributing to education programs and sharing practice innovations related to digital health, workforce wellbeing and nursing leadership. Through these activities, I have supported knowledge sharing, professional development and the advancement of contemporary cancer nursing practice.

In my current role, I continue to influence cancer control at scale by embedding evidence-based care frameworks, supporting safe digital transformation and building sustainable nursing workforces capable of meeting growing cancer demand. I am committed to supporting the CNSA mission and see board service as an opportunity to contribute my experience and leadership in service of the broader oncology nursing profession and the people affected by cancer.
