Specialist Cancer Nurse Self-Assessment Tool (CaN-SAT)

The CaN-SAT is a tool for specialist cancer nurses to self-assess their skill levels on various elements of practice critical to the provision of holistic care to people diagnosed with cancer. The CaN-SAT is a valid and reliable tool developed by Monash University, McGrath Foundation and CNSA.

The tool allows nurses working at the ‘specialist’ level to rate themselves on a scale of ‘novice to expert’. Specialist cancer nurses are advanced practice nurses such as Clinical Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists or Clinical Nurse Consultants. Other cancer nurses such as registered nurses may find this tool helpful if they are aspiring to a specialist cancer nurse role. This tool is not designed for use by nurse practitioners.
